Position Overview

Innovative Therapeutic Services (ITS) is seeking a Psychiatrist to provide psychiatric services to children and adolescents in a juvenile detention center setting. This role focuses on addressing psychiatric disorders, behavioral challenges, trauma, and co-occurring conditions to support rehabilitation. The psychiatrist will collaborate closely with an interdisciplinary team to ensure medication compliance and uphold professional standards of care.

The ideal candidate is a licensed psychiatrist in Maryland with experience working with youth in juvenile justice settings and a commitment to trauma-informed, evidence-based care.

Onboarding and required training are expected to begin in February 2026, with staff assuming their full clinical roles effective March 1, 2026.


Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough psychiatric evaluations and assessments to diagnose mental health conditions of youth
     
  • Develop personalized treatment plans using a combination of psychotherapy, medications, and other therapeutic approaches
     
  • Work closely with nursing staff to ensure proper administration of psychotropic medications
     
  • Consult with nursing and behavioral health staff to review Medication Administration Records (MARs), laboratory results, and other medical records
     
  • Complete Abnormal Involuntary Movement Scale (AIMS) assessments, with behavioral health staff assisting in tele-psychiatry settings if necessary
     
  • Deliver emergency psychiatric services as needed, including 24/7 on-call coverage
     
  • Provide face-to-face consultations within 1 hour of notification when requested
     
  • Attend clinical staff meetings as scheduled
     
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education, Licensure & Qualifications

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree
  • Completion of accredited psychiatry residency; fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry preferred
  • Licensed in the state of Maryland in good standing
  • Minimum of 5 years practicing psychiatry
  • Experience working with children and adolescents in a juvenile detention center setting
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and internet-based systems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Willing to complete a federal and state background check
  • Reliable transportation
